Specification guide

Choose flexible magnet with the application in view.

Flexible magnet is a format and assembly decision as much as a material decision. Sheet, strip and converted parts simplify installation, but final performance depends on thickness, magnetization pattern, backing and bond system.

A good fit when

The material earns its place.

  • Large-area, low-profile magnetic attachment
  • Parts that need to be cut, slit, punched or converted
  • Seals, signage, displays and sensor components with moderate magnetic demand
  • Designs where adhesive, PVC or paper lamination is part of the product
Check before release

Resolve these trade-offs early.

  • Magnetic pull varies strongly with air gap, steel thickness, pole pitch and contact area
  • Rubber binder and adhesive systems have temperature, chemical and aging limits
  • Bending radius and cut geometry can affect fit, edge lift and long-term retention
  • State whether the part is supplied magnetized, unmagnetized, laminated or converted
RFQ preparation

Give engineering the information that changes the answer.

A drawing alone may not define the magnetic requirement. These inputs help us recommend the right grade, geometry, coating and inspection plan instead of quoting a generic part.

Format and conversion

Specify sheet, roll, strip or finished die-cut part, including width, length, hole pattern, slit layout and winding direction.

Pole pattern

Provide pole pitch, face orientation, multi-pole direction and the mating steel or magnetic target used in the application.

Bond system

State adhesive type, liner, substrate, surface preparation, peel target and application temperature.

Flex and environment

Define minimum bend radius, repeated flex cycles, temperature, humidity, cleaners, UV exposure and storage conditions.

Acceptance planning

Define the evidence before the first production order.

Inspection scope should follow the failure mode. We can align the report format, sample quantity and release criteria during drawing review.

Pull-force method

Measure magnetic pull using the actual steel thickness, air gap, contact area and fixture. A catalogue pull value is not a system guarantee.

Dimensional conversion

Inspect cut profile, hole position, slit width, liner placement and edge quality against the released drawing.

Adhesive durability

Run the agreed temperature, humidity, peel or shear exposure on the actual substrate and surface preparation.

Magnetization consistency

Verify pole pitch, polarity and face orientation at the start, middle and end of converted rolls or lots.

Can flexible magnet be cut to shape?

Sheet and strip formats can often be slit, die-cut or punched, subject to thickness, geometry, backing and tooling review. Final cut limits should be confirmed against the drawing.

How is magnetic pull specified?

Pull should be tied to a defined test method because air gap, steel thickness, pole pattern and contact area can materially change the result.

Is flexible magnet waterproof?

The magnetic compound, laminate, adhesive and edges all contribute to environmental performance. Specify the exposure and sealing requirement instead of relying on the word 'waterproof'.
